{"id":1337,"date":"2024-04-11T09:10:56","date_gmt":"2024-04-11T09:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nickmathews.me\/?p=1337"},"modified":"2024-04-15T23:08:12","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T23:08:12","slug":"adele-roberts-first-cancer-symptom-appeared-on-im-a-celebrity-for-all-to-see","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.nickmathews.me\/index.php\/2024\/04\/11\/adele-roberts-first-cancer-symptom-appeared-on-im-a-celebrity-for-all-to-see\/","title":{"rendered":"Adele Roberts\u2019 first cancer symptom appeared on I\u2019m A Celebrity \u2018for all to see\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\" img-container shareable-item wp-caption\" style=\"max-width:540px\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"wp-image-20626682 lazyload\" width=\"2450\" height=\"1520\" alt=\"Adele Roberts in I&#039;m a Celebrity \" data-src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PRI_99296284-da47-e1712819737268.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\"><\/div><figcaption>Adele Roberts says she had bowel cancer while in the I\u2019m A Celebrity jungle (Picture: ITV\/REX\/Shutterstock)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/adele-roberts\/\">Adele Roberts <\/a>was<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/10\/05\/adele-roberts-dancing-on-ice-stoma-bag-bowel-cancer-lorraine-19611432\/?ico=mosaic_tag\"> diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021<\/a>, but she was experiencing symptoms while on <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/im-a-celebrity\/?ico=auto_link_entertainment_P1_LNK1\">I\u2019m A Celebrity<\/a> two years before. <\/p>\n<p>The Radio 1 DJ, 45, has opened up in her new autobiography \u2013 Personal Best: From Rock Bottom<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/04\/23\/adele-roberts-ecstatic-after-completing-marathon-with-her-stoma-bag-audrey-18660449\/\"> to the Top of the World <\/a>\u2013 about how <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/01\/29\/bowel-cancer-symptoms-this-is-what-your-poo-says-about-your-health-19055746\/\">her cancer symptoms <\/a>were<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/04\/02\/celebrity-bake-off-2023-adele-roberts-reveals-she-was-having-chemotherapy-18544220\/\"> there for the world to see <\/a>when she appeared on the ITV show in 2019. <\/p>\n<p>Looking back Adele sees her tiredness in the jungle \u2013 she was often the first campmate to call it a night \u2013 as a symptom of her bowel cancer.<\/p>\n<p>The Dancing on Ice star, who announced <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/03\/09\/adele-roberts-celebrates-being-cancer-free-on-44th-birthday-18411475\/\">she was cancer-free in June 2022<\/a>, reflected on how campmates would laugh with her, saying: \u2018You always look dead when you\u2019re asleep.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>At the time, Adele thought she was suffering side effects of living in the jungle with limited food but she was actually \u2018dying\u2019, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/3am\/celebrity-news\/adele-roberts-shares-harrowing-first-32557738\">The Mirror<\/a>, citing the star\u2019s words in her memoir, released today. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018I also used to find it very hard to stay awake once the sun had gone down. She rang one of the producers to say she was worried. They said I was just a bit cold and tried to put her mind at rest,\u2019 Adele said. <\/p>\n<p>However, Adele described how her loss of appetite continued, and while she couldn\u2019t face food in the evening, she said the daytime eating challenges \u2018saved my life\u2019 as she wrote: \u2018Thank god for the turkey testicles and camel toes.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>As Adele had \u2018no appetite\u2019 and food \u2018hurt [her] tummy\u2019 ITV show\u2019s medic Dr Bob\u00a0began to worry, so gave her nutrition shakes and weighed her regularly, but the weight loss continued. <\/p>\n<figure class=\" img-container shareable-item wp-caption\" style=\"max-width:540px\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"wp-image-20626684 lazyload\" width=\"2437\" height=\"1654\" alt=\"Adele Roberts and James Haskell &#039;I&#039;m a Celebrity... It was there for us all to see in the camp, but we didn\u2019t know.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>Adele is \u2018not blaming anyone\u2019 \u2013 including Dr Bob, who didn\u2019t have a colonoscopy machine in the jungle \u2018or permission to touch my bum for that matter\u2019 \u2013 butwished she was more aware about bowel cancer symptoms, so she could have recognised it earlier. <\/p>\n<p>She added: \u2018So just to reiterate: loss of appetite, a sore, bloated tummy, weight loss and fatigue. These are the classic symptoms of bowel cancer, and they were playing out on TV for all to see.\u2019 <\/p>\n<p>The star also said she was grateful for being voted off the show first, as she reflected: \u2018That might have saved my life too.
